Radio 2 will be the first radio station in the world to play the new Kate Bush single, “Deeper Understanding” on Monday 4 April 2011. The song will be played within the Ken Bruce show at approximately 11.10am. I can’t wait to hear it myself.’
The song will be the Record of the Week on Radio2 and will be played each day on the Ken Bruce’s Show and Alex Lester’s programme. Jeff Smith, Head of Music, Radio 2 and 6 Music – ”Kate’s music is as influential today as it was when it was first released, so I’m delighted to have this world exclusive.

KATE RELEASES “DIRECTOR’S CUT” ON MAY 16TH, A NEW ALBUM WHICH SEES HER RE-VISIT A SELECTION OF TRACKS FROM THE SENSUAL WORLD & THE RED SHOES!!!
NEW SINGLE “DEEPER UNDERSTANDING” RELEASED IN APRIL!!!
CONFIRMED: KATE CURRENTLY WORKING ON NEW MATERIAL!!!
From the press release:
London, 11 March 2011
Kate Bush releases an unusual new album “Director’s Cut” on May 16 on her own label Fish People, in conjunction with EMI.
On “Directors Cut” Kate revisits a selection of tracks from her albums “The Sensual World” and “The Red Shoes”, a process that presents a fascinating portrait of an artist in a constant state of evolution. She has re-recorded some elements whilst keeping the best musical performances of each song – making it something of a director’s cut but in sound, not vision.
A new version of “Deeper Understanding” will be released as a single in April. Although written some twenty years ago, the song may be more relevant today than ever…
Kate is currently working on new material although no release date has been set for this.
“Director’s Cut” will be released in the following formats: Digital Album, Standard CD in a case-bound book, Deluxe CD (three disc package, including Director’s Cut, The Sensual World and re-mastered The Red Shoes) in a case-bound book and two-disc vinyl. Other digital and vinyl formats will be made available on katebush.com. Details will be published shortly.

Kate pays special tribute to her friend Bob Mercer on the front page of her official website today:
Also in today’s update from Kate, it’s been a long wait, but users of the iTunes downloading service will be able to download the Aerial album as it was meant to be experienced. From the news page of Kate’s official site www.katebush.com:
We are pleased to announce that as from mid-May, Aerial, Kate’s most recent album, will be available to download from iTunes for the first time, including a version of ‘A Sky Of Honey’ that now runs as one piece of music, which is how it was always intended to be heard. With special thanks to David Munns.
A short message from Kate on her official site: “Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a very happy New Year. With love, Kate x”…

Kate has updated her official site with a note about Lyra, saying how thrilled she was to have been asked to write for the film and wishing her fans a wonderful Christmas. She advises people that the song will be available to download from iTunes December 10th, but mentions a date of January 22nd for a physical release (which we hadn’t heard before). Her site also includes a good quality short clip of the song. Kate also tells us that her classic song ‘This Woman’s Work’ is going to be heard in the Extras Christmas special – the programme by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant is set to be one of the most-watched television shows in the UK over the Christmas period, it being the two-part finale of the popular series. Two potential download hits this December then!
“Hello everyone, I’ve really enjoyed putting the ‘Lyra’ track together and working with the Magdalen Choristers was totally delightful. Philip’s trilogy is a masterpiece and I was thrilled to be asked to write this for the film. Have a wonderful Christmas…”
Kate has posted a note today at her official site www.katebush.com and finally, as with the other albums, we get to see who played what and where on Aerial – be sure to check it out at Kate’s site. I’m off to listen out for that didgeridoo on The Painter’s Link!
Hello everyone, It has been a very quiet year and lovely for us to catch up on things. We are all well and happy. I know that many of you have asked for more details on Aerial’s track-by-track credits – these can now be found in the ‘Musicians’ section. I am seriously shocked and extremely flattered to be voted in the top 10 living icons on ‘The Culture Show’. Thank you so much for voting me in, I feel very honoured. I hope you have a fantastic Christmas, we are really looking forward to it… and here’s wishing you all a wonderful new year ahead.
With love, Kate
Living Icon update: Kate has been voted in 7th place of the 10 finalists, with Morrissey, David Attenborough and Paul McCartney making the top three – see Kate’s reaction to the voting in her official website note above.
Don’t worry – I’m not forgetting the round-up of the Kate news when we’ll be taking a look at how Aerial is being received worldwide (it has hit no 2 in the combined European chart!), I am working on it for you – but for now all the very latest news mentions can be found in our forum’s Medialog section. The huge online Kate Bush resource Gaffaweb is now being continually updated with all Aerial-related articles, reviews and interviews etc, be sure to check it out. Kate’s official site is now also available in a HTML format as well as the Flash version. Kate has posted the following message on the site:
“Welcome to the website.
This is a place where I can speak to you directly from time to time. The site itself will be an evolving process starting here with some general information, video clips and a few things to purchase.
“Aerial” has been the most difficult album I have ever made, it has straddled nine to ten years, mainly the last five.
There were many times when I thought it might never be finished…but now it is, and I hope you will enjoy it.
Kate Bush
Peacock (the design company who worked with Kate on every aspect of Aerial’s launch including album artwork and design, website, TV ads etc) put a whole bunch of fake birds on a billboard to promote the album – nice! Am asuming this is in London. Here’s a screengrab from the Peacock site….
Kate has sent out the following seasonal message to her fans via the Kate Bush Club (yes, it still exists!) With thanks to Steve and Melisande on the site’s forum. Special thanks as always to the lovely Lisa Bradley of the KBC for still being there for us and for Kate!
Hello Everyone, Many thanks for all your great letters of support and encouragement – they mean such a lot. The album is nearly finished now and will be out next year – we’ll let you know when. It features some beautiful orchestral movements by Michael Kamen – we had a wonderful day together at Abbey Road Studios last winter. I’m so pleased with everyone’s work on this record. There are some lovely performances and I hope you will all feel it’s been worth the wait. Bertie keeps me very busy, he is so much fun and we are all really looking forward to Christmas. Wishing you a Merry Christmas and I hope next year is a really happy one for you. Lots of love, Kate x
Here’s Kate’s recent letter to the members of the Kate Bush Fan Club:
“It’s been a while since I was last in touch with you all. Thank you for your cards & letters of congratulations on the Q award I received recently. It was a great honour to receive the award and I found the audience’s response quite overwhelming. Things have been really hectic and I so appreciate all your feedback and encouragement. Sometimes the progress of the album is painfully slow but I find I get so busy being a Mum – however, I think the work is going well. I get so little time in the studio that my approach is very different, I’ll be really interested to see what you all think when it’s finished. Bertie is very excited about Christmas this year. I hope you all have a fantastic Christmas and a very Happy New Year. Lots of love,
Kate xx”
