Kate’s classic 1985 album Hounds of Love is being reissued in a special audiophile vinyl edition. The re-issue was mastered from the original master tapes and pressed on 180g marble vinyl. This is the first time the album has been presented in a gatefold sleeve. Audio Fidelity is based in Camarillo, California. The label works from the original master mix tapes. Then, without further sonic manipulation, it is pressed “real time” onto the disc’s surface by laser at the manufacturing plant. The end result is a vinyl album with the warm sound of the original analog master tape. We’re hearing very good things about the sound quality of this limited edition. The Sensual World is also going to be released in this format later this summer. Read more about the release on this information sheet here. Please also keep an eye on this site in the next couple of weeks for news of an exclusive discount to my site visitors who want to go ahead and purchase this album on the Audio Fidelity website.

The Competiton is now closed. From the hundreds of entries, five winners (three from the UK, one from Canada and one from Israel) have been contacted. The correct answer was Jonathan Williams (we allowed alternative spellings of his first name!)

Thanks to the nice people at Audio Fidelity we have 5 copies to giveaway! To be in with a chance of winning all you have to do is answer the following question:

Who is credited with playing cello on the track “Hounds of Love”?

Please send your answer to competition@katebushnews.com – if you are successful I will then be in touch by email to get your details for getting the album to you. The competition runs till July 31st 2010 at which point the random draw will be made. Good luck!

The Sensual Walk 2009

A brief write-up from Irish newspaper The Evening Herald about The Sensual Walk on Saturday is here. Thanks to everyone who took part – a great day as always!

The Sensual Walk 3

This year I’m again organising the very enjoyable Sensual Walk gathering for fans and friends in Howth, Dublin, Ireland on Saturday June 13th 2009. I’m posting details for this event on this forum thread here. Please don’t hesitate to email me if you are interested in joining us or if you have any other questions, I’ll be happy to help you out. Hope to see some of you on the hill! Sean T 🙂

Happy Birthday Kate!

It’s that time of year again, Kate’s birthday – this time she hits fabulous 50, a full two weeks before the media go crazy reporting the same event happening to a certain Madonna person…makes you feel glad that Kate avoids all the celebrity madness and can peacefully enjoy what we hope will be a great day surrounded by her loved ones. Wishing you a happy birthday Kate, sending you all the very best. Sean

The Sensual Walk #2

Just to let you know about an Irish Kate Bush fan gathering happening in Dublin on June 14th. The Sensual Walk celebrates Kate, Molly Bloom and James Joyce on beautiful Howth Head with live music, a cliff walk and an evening of merry-making. I’m organising it for the second year running and all KB fans from Ireland and abroad are very welcome.  Please drop me an email if you’re thinking of coming and want to know more. Two other great gatherings happening in the UK this year include the annual Glastonbury gathering on July 27th (more here) and the Wuthering Hike up in Haworth on the Yorkshire moors on November 1st (more here).

Merry Christmas!

I’d like to wish all our site visitors and forum members a very merry Christmas, and all the very best for a wise and healthy 2008! Thanks for all your support this year – a year which unexpectedly ended with Kate singing the theme song to a film that has hit No.1 in the box office on both sides of the Atlantic – great stuff. We especially wish Kate and her family all the very best for the Christmas season and a bright and happy new year. 2008 sees a number of landmarks in Kate Bush fandom, not least the 30th Anniversary of Kate’s first record, Wuthering Heights, and her debut album, The Kick Inside. We’ll even be celebrating 10 years of this website – any excuse for a party eh? Best wishes – Sean.

The Sensual Walk – Saturday, 16th June 2007

Regular visitors to the site and forum will know that, lacking live shows to attend, Kate Bush fans have a tendency to organise informal gatherings to meet up with like-minded souls for chat, fun and merry-making. These events are listed in the Announcements & Fan Events section of our forum. I’m giving this first Irish gathering a special mention as I’m organising this one myself! You can click on the banner below for all the up-to-date details or please email me with any questions, whether you’re an Irish fan or coming along from further afield. The event itself consists of a meet-up at the summit of Howth Head, a pleasant stroll along the cliff walk (40 minutes or so) and an afternoon and evening quenching our collective thirst in the fishing village of Howth in the Abbey Tavern (one of the oldest pubs in Dublin) – toasting Kate, James Joyce and the Blooms – it’s happening onBloomsday you know! Music on the hill will be provided by Thinguma*jigSaw and Mike Stevens. Hope to see some of you there – Sean.

Merry Christmas To All Our Site Visitors and Forum Members!

Happy Christmas!

Blimey! What an amazing 2005 we’ve had. The album and single have been hugely successful, Kate has produced probably the most beautiful work of her career thus far and the critical reception from the media and fans has been overwhelming in its positivity. It is almost too much to take in to be honest. Here’s hoping that you all enjoy the seasonal good cheer and that the album continues to surprise and delight you as we embrace the Christmas holiday. Thank you all SO much for the support you’ve given to this site, to the forum and to HomeGround Magazine (what a brilliant new issue!) over the past year – you are all truly fantastic. Special thanks to Kate for this amazing new music.

Welcome to the new site address! – www.katebushnews.com

Hi all. As we gear up for KB8 it’s become obvious to me that I need more space. The old site was hosted for free with eircom.net and is limited to 10MB in size – basically, it’s full! So I have moved the entire site over to this new address which gives me 25 times the space to host the site, much more control and basically puts me in a much better position to cope with the daily news that’s going to be pouring in come album time. This improved hosting is going to cost money so I will have to consider some sort of discreet advertising (such as Google ads) somewhere on the site, something that I’ve managed to avoid for the last 7 and a half years. Don’t worry, I hate ad banners so will keep it to a minumum! The old eircom address will remain for the time being but please do update your bookmarks and spread the word. At the moment the new address simply mirrors all of the content from the old site, but over the next while I will be re-structuring the news section to deal with the practicalities of the upcoming expected volume of updates. Thanks as always for all your help and support, here’s looking forward to the excitement of hearing that voice again. Seán T

I always promise myself I won’t let the newsbits and emails pile up…oh well. Thanks for being patient to everyone who’s emailed in this month. Special wishes with this update to Krys from HomeGround – she’s having an operation in a couple of days so we wish her a speedy recovery and lots of hugs! The site’s forum is as buzzing as ever – please register and join in if you haven’t already (you can click on the banner just above). Still no more firm album news, but we do know that Kate is very happy with how its going. In the meantime as you’ll see in the update, the celebs mentioning Kate in the media are everywhere. Makes you wonder the sort of stir ‘KB8’ is going to make when it finally gets here…

KBN&I is now 5 years old, and gets a new look…

KBN&I - new lookThis website was launched on the 25th January 1998 and since then, with the help of its many visitors, it has been keeping you up to date with what has been happening worldwide with the music that Kate Bush has sent out into the world. We even occasionally had news of Kate herself and what she’s been up to (well, sometimes!), but as we all know Kate’s career and lKite screensaverife has entered a different phase, still musically creative and driven, but also firmly focused on enjoying her family life to the fullest. This redesigned site isn’t really very different to what has gone before. I had been thinking about giving the site a new lick of paint for quite a while, but you know yourself, there never seems to be the time. Recently I was contacted by Brian, a regular site user and graphic designer, offering his services if I ever needed them. Before we knew it a new look had evolved. It also serves to help me with my site “housekeeping” too. I’m sure it will be changing and growing as the year goes on. Big thanks to Brian for all his hard work and help! (and especially for the beautiful anniversary Flash animation on the index page – you can download it as a screensaver here). Thanks again to everyone who’s helped to keep KBN&I going!

Settler tour Chicago with me!

SettlerShameless plug: Thought you might be interested to hear that some friends of mine in the Dublin band Settler have been invited over to Chicago by “I Wanna Be Kate” tribute CD producer Thomas Dunning to take part in some shows around the city over Easter. Although no Kate songs will be performed (well, on stage anyway), the band will be involved in Tom’s famous Hoot Nite on March 27th in Schubas, the theme of the night is “The Cure vs Diana Ross”, so its battle of the big hair-dos! Those wanting to find out more about Tom’s tribute album (Kate loved his CD by the way, she said “I think it’s absolutely wonderful…”) go to this page. If you’d like to read more about a Dublin band on the up, read more about my Settler pals here. And finally don’t worry, while I’m away in Chicago The Duck will be here in case of any important updates. Just wanted to fill you in on an exciting site-related happening, many thanks again to Tom.
