Kate Bush – Before the Dawn Live: Twenty Two Dates Sell Out in 15 Minutes!

“And now here we are. The first Kate Bush concerts since 1979. We can’t imagine what they’ll be like. All we can know is that they’ll be unlike anything anyone has seen before. And at the heart of them will be some of the most extraordinary, brilliant, moving, astonishing and incomparable pop songs of all time. And they’ll be sung and played and danced by a genius. That’s why everyone wants a Kate Bush ticket.”

(Tim Chipping on Holy Moly)

Kate’s PR has tweeted that the tickets for Kate’s live shows in August to October 2014 basically sold out this morning in 15 minutes. However a few hours later persistent fans were still surfing the Eventim site picking up the last few tickets dropping back for sale after their original purchasers could not complete the transaction for one reason or another.

Kate said this morning: “I’m completely overwhelmed by the response to the shows. Thank you so much to everyone. Looking forward to seeing you all later this year”.

Not all fans were able to purchase a ticket in the morning rush, though it is now quite clear that many reselling agencies were quite succesful. Unfortunately, despite stringent reselling safeguards, some ticket resellers are already seeking up to £2,500 for a single resold ticket. Plus extortionate “booking fees”.

Seán discusses Kate’s announcement on Irish Radio

I was asked to chat to Dave Fanning on RTE 2FM this morning, Ireland’s national broadcaster. Dave certainly fired plenty of questions at me but I tried to represent Kate and her fans as best as I could! You can hear it in the clip below. (with thanks to Peter for the audio clip)

Fun fact: Irish broadcasting legend, Gay Byrne, gets pulled into the conversation at one point as he wandered down the studio corridor. He famously interviewed Kate on her only Irish TV appearance on the Late Late Show in March 1978, but seems to have forgotten about it! I’ve included the clip of him chatting to Kate below…

We’d like to wish Kate all the very best on this incredible new adventure – a big hug from us! Peter, Krys, Dave and Seán x

Kate Bush 2014 by Trevor Leighton

Tickets will go on sale at 9.30 am (GMT) on the 28th March 2014 and will be available exclusively from the following agents: www.eventim.co.uk  www.gigsandtours.com
www.ticketmaster.co.uk

Please note that tickets are NOT available  from the venue Box Office.

Additional order enquiries should be directed to the Eventim customer service department at: customerservice@eventim.co.uk or 08443760021

Ticket purchases are limited to a maximum of 4 per order.  For example, you can try to purchase up to 4 tickets for just one of the 15 concerts, or 4 tickets for 4 separate shows.

Please particularly note the ticket security and resale measures: the name of the lead booker will be printed on the first ticket.  As the number of tickets is limited they will be allocated on a first-come first-served basis. Tickets cannot be resold or transferred under any circumstances.

The promoter says: The lead booker will be asked to present ID to gain entry into the venue. Failure to adhere the terms and conditions may result in the customer’s order being void. There are no exceptions to this rule.

Demand for tickets is likely to be enormous. Gigwise estimates that the demand will be greater than for recent gigs by Beyonce and Lady Gaga.

Beautiful version of Running Up That Hill from last weekend’s Belfast event

Thomas Keery from Dog Kennel Productions has filmed a very fine version of Running Up That Hill from two of the participants in the recent Kate Bush tribute event marking International Women’s Day. In this clip, Fiona O’Kane and Frances Mitchell rehearse their cover of the song prior to Saturday’s event in the Oh Yeah Centre in Belfast. Just lovely. (with thanks to Thomas for getting in touch)

Calvin Klein designer acquires a copy of “Cathy” by John Carder Bush

The second “Cathy” related post in as many weeks, this one is an article I missed from 2012 in the Wall Street Journal about how delighted Italo Zucchelli, menswear designer for Calvin Klein Collection, was to pick up a rare copy of the book for over $1,000 recently! (thanks to Gabi for sharing)

“When I saw it, I screamed,” says Mr. Zucchelli, who owns all of Ms. Bush’s albums. “I bought it immediately. I had to have that book.” Since then, the book, “Cathy” by John Carder Bush, has occupied a prominent spot on the bookshelf in his Manhattan apartment, “where I can see it.”

Read the full article at the Wall Street Journal site here. Seán says: This makes me extra grateful again for the signed copy of the book that John sent me a few years back – cheers John! Check out John’s official site here to purchase his beautifully bound novel “The Cellar Gang“.

Belfast tribute to Kate for International Women’s Day event

Belfast International Women's Day Kate Bush event

The ‘Oh Yeah Centre’  in Belfast is hosting an International Women’s Day special of music and film celebrating Kate’s work. From the press release:

“The evening will feature live interpretations of her work, plus original material from local artists Fiona O Kane (runaway GO), Suzanne Savage, The Dandy Horses, Shannon O Neill, and Decomposing In Paris.

Kate Bush is one of the most successful female solo artists of the last 35 years. At the age of 19 she topped the UK singles charts with her debut single ‘Wuthering Heights’ which made her the first woman to have a number one hit with a self penned song. Since then she has released 10 albums, and has been nominated for and received several awards including an Ivor Novello in 2002. In 1980 her third album ‘Never for Ever’ made her the first woman ever to enter the album charts at number one.

In addition to celebrating her incredible and inspirational contribution to the world of music, the evening will also highlight an interesting link that she has with Belfast, through a short film. The story tells of how she sourced a Lambeg drum from a shop on Sandy Row, when recording the album ‘Hounds of Love’. The instrument which was specially commissioned went on to feature in the hugely successful tracks ‘Running Up That Hill’ and ‘Cloudbusting’.

The event which is free kicks off at 1pm with the screening of a Kate Bush documentary ‘Under Review’, plus live music from Wookalily, and a women’s safety info session. The evening event will start at 9pm.”

Feature on ‘Cathy’ by John Carder Bush in AnOther Magazine

The fashion and photography magazine, AnOther, has recently published an article on the (long out of print) 1986 photography book ‘Cathy’ by Kate’s brother John Carder Bush. It describes the book:

…a book of photographs of an eight-year-old Kate Bush, taken by her older brother John Carder Bush and published in 1986. Here we present an extract from Carder Bush’s lyrical introduction, alongside a gallery of images featuring a blunt fringed Cathy cavorting around in costumes and oversized hats, lost in a world of her own imagination.

You can read the article here and visit John’s official site here, where copies of his brilliant novel “The Cellar Gang” can be ordered.

Kate Remixes of the Day: This Woman’s Work (Echoes Remix) and “Electric Cloudbusting” (Lifelike Remix)

On certain days, if done well, a remix of a Kate song can be just the ticket. Uplifting, even. Here’s two I really like, both great on headphones. (Note: Both are unofficial mixes – cheers for the link, Brian. Cloudbusting animation from the Bushygifs tumblr page)

Unseen 1978 promo photos of Kate surface online…

image

There are hundreds (if not thousands) of promotional photos of Kate floating about online from every aspect of her career, but apart from when a new album is released, it’s very unusual to see a whole bunch of them appear that most fans are not familiar with. Very recently, almost 30 shots of Kate, reportedly from her Spring 1978 trip to Holland, have surfaced (thanks to Asmoday on our site forum and to goldduststevie for sharing). See them here.

Very much of their time, they are nonetheless striking “new” images of a legendary artist just setting out on her journey…

BFI explore how cinema has influenced Kate’s work

Moira Shearer in Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger’s visually ravishing Technicolor masterpiece, The Red Shoes (1948)

An article on the British Film Institute‘s website, in association with their current season of gothic films, delves into Kate’s back catalogue to “discover how the darker side of cinema influenced some of her greatest hits.”

The article touches on Wuthering Heights, The Red Shoes, The Infant Kiss, Hounds of Love and The Dreaming, citing the influence of films such as Night of the Demon, The Innocents and The Shining on these classic songs. Read the full article at the BFI site here.

Kate Creates Hand-drawn Cover for Mojo Magazine’s 20th Anniversary Issue!

Mojo 20 Years WalletThe new edition of Mojo Magazine (out later this week) will be celebrating the magazine’s 20th year of publication. To mark it, they asked Kate to design the hand-drawn cover! The Independent newspaper writes: “There’s probably only one media brand in the world that could get the famously private Kate Bush to fetch down her sketching equipment and produce a hand-drawn illustration in its honour. And that’s Mojo.” Note: the cardboard wallet pictured here will contain the actual magazine, which will feature Kate’s cover.

The issue will also include a free CD plus interviews with  Jimmy Page, John Lydon, Ringo Starr, Alex Turner, Brian Wilson, Jeff Beck, Debbie Harry, Paul Weller, Prince Buster, Ray Davies, Martha Reeves, Yoko Ono, Cliff Richard, Steven Tyler, Danger Mouse, David Crosby, Pete Seeger, Buddy Guy, Bobby Womack and John Cale. Also featured will be the ’20 Most Important Albums of Mojo’s Lifetime’ as voted by the readers. Read more about the magazine at the Mojo site here.

Subscribers to the magazine will additionally get an extra special version of this Kate-designed cover, “adorned with gold foil block.” Sure to be a collector’s item! Kate has apparently signed her cover art with the following dedication:

“Glad to see you’ve still got your Mojo after 20 years”
